Is there a place for religion in a rational world?

how can one say they are rational when they believe in theories of genesis that have existed prior to the proliferation of the scientific process, that is not to say that all in science is perfect, but that which is found to be incorrect is in fact subject to change, unlike a religious text, which tends to be static and unchanging. please answer, do not quote a holy text without a PERSONAL explanation of said text.
